Colonel MARGARET PICCOLO

 

Colonel Margaret Piccolo is the Commander of the 109th Medical Group, Stratton at the 109th, Stratton Air National Guard Base, Scotia, New York.

 

Colonel Piccolo began her military career when she enlisted with the United States Air Force as an Inventory Management Specialist in November 1984.  After completing her technical training at Lowry AFB, Colorado, Colonel Piccolo was assigned to the 6918th Electronic Security Squadron, Sembach Air Base, Germany. While assigned to the 6918th, Colonel Piccolo was the Airman in Charge of Logistics for Ground Radio Maintenance and liaison to 69th Electronic Security Command. As a member of the elite Honor Guard and Drill team, she was requested by name to perform distinguished Wing details.  In March1987, Colonel Piccolo was assigned to the 380th Logistics Squadron, Plattsburgh Air Force Base, New York.  In 1992, Colonel Piccolo joined the New York Air National Guard and was assigned to 106th Rescue Wing, Avionics Maintenance Squadron. In 1995, Lieutenant Colonel Piccolo crossed-trained to become Unit Training Manager for Logistics Squadron.  In 1999, she cross-trained back into Inventory Management Specialist.  In April 2005, Colonel Piccolo was directly commissioned as a Health Service Administration Officer.  In 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Piccolo was assigned to the Office of the Joint Surgeon as the Air Operations and Liaison Officer in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, for Operation Inoculation.  In 2021, she was temporarily assigned to the first Dual Status Command in New York for Joint Service Operations, vaccinating underservice New Yorkers.

 

Throughout Colonel Piccolo’s career, she had multiple deployments in support of Operations NORTHERN/SOUTHERN WATCH, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  During the deployment, she was the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Logistics section maintaining mobility readiness spare package for both HH60s and C130s.  In September 2003, Colonel Piccolo became a superintendent in Logistics. She cross-trained into the Health Services Administration career field and was selected as the Medical Readiness Officer and Officer in Charge of Medical Logistics.  Prior to her current position, Colonel Piccolo was the Medical Administrative Officer at the 106th Medical Group.
