Chief Master Sergeant KAROLYN A. DE VITO

Chief Master Sergeant Karolyn A. De Vito serves as the Command Chief of the 109th Airlift Wing, Stratton Air National Guard Base,
Scotia, New York. The 109th AW is home to the ski-equipped LC-130H cargo plane whose primary mission is to support the National Science Foundation directed operations in the Artic and Antarctica polar regions. In this position, she is the key enlisted advisor to the commander on operational effectiveness, morale, welfare, and ensuring proper training and equipping of more than 900 enlisted Airmen.

In 1997, Chief De Vito enlisted in the New York Air National Guard’s 139th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at Stratton ANGB, Scotia, New York, as an aeromedical evacuation technician. She has deployed in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003 to Camp Wolf, Kuwait and in 2004 to Germany, where she worked at the Aeromedical Evacuation Command and Control Center. She deployed in support of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and again in 2011 in support of Hurricane Irene. Chief De Vito served as a first sergeant from 2007 to 2012 for the 139th AES, Operations Group and the 109th Airlift Wing. In 2008 and 2010, she deployed to Antarctica in support of Operation DEEP FREEZE. Chief De Vito served as the first sergeant coordinator for operations in Greenland from 2008 to 2012, in support of OPERATION RAVEN DEW. In 2014 and 2016, she deployed to the 379th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Al Udeid AB, Qatar in the role of Superintendent/Additional Duty First Sergeant in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE & Operation FREEDOM SETINAL.
Once her first sergeant tenure was over, she returned to the 139 AES as the Superintendent of Nursing Services from 2012 – 2017. Chief De Vito served as the Medical Group’s Superintendent from 2017–2020. She then went on to be the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Maintenance Group from 2020 – 2023. In August of 2023, Chief De Vito assumed responsibility as the Command Chief.


Chief De Vito obtained her bachelor’s degree in education at State University of New York - Cortland in 2001 went on to earn a master’s degree in early childhood development through the University of Phoenix in 2005. She has been teaching physical education for 22 years with the Mohonasen Central School District.
