109th AW participates in National Disaster Medical System Exercise
Civilian agencies, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, partnered with airmen from the 109th Airlift Wing during a joint exercise Aug. 8, 2013, designed to practice patient movement, treatment, and distribution to local hospitals for treatment. The exercise highlighted the vital function of the 109AW and 139AES in the National Disaster Medical System and homeland defense mission as well as the cooperation and coordination between the 109AW and New York state civilian medical and emergency management assets.
